It was an easy-goin’ summer day down in the shady dale
When Mr. Squirrel came bounding down the woodsy winding trail
He stopped to take a nap upon a little girl’s front lawn
When he awoke, he said, “Holy smoke! My bushy tail is gone!”
He watched the girl sit down and take her lunch from her lunch pail
He nearly cried when he spied his beloved bushy tail!
I’ve got pepper, pepper, pepper in my tail, tail, tail
I’m gonna squirm, squirm, squirm, I’m gonna wail, wail, wail
I’m gonna tramp, tramp, tramp down the trail, trail, trail
‘Cause I’ve got pepper, pepper, pepper in my tail, tail, tail
He couldn’t stand the scratching, and the sneezing made him ail
He snuck inside her house that night to find his bushy tail
“You give my tail right back to me!” demanded Mr. Squirrel
“I had it first, and what is worse, I’m still using it, girl!”
She gave it back, and with a tack he pinned his tail back on
The pepper itchin’ got him twitchin’ – he wished that thing was gone!
That crazy squirrel then left the girl and high-tailed his way home
He scrubbed his bushy tail with soap and brushed it with a comb
He pampered it, he powdered it, he patted that thing dry
He strutted proudly ’round his home and held his big tail high
But didn’t notice when he knocked a jar of pepper down
It landed in his tail again and made him jump around!
